 |
Buffalo, NY October 6th, 2006-CUBRC President and CEO, Tom McMahon, announced today that the organization's Hypersonics team received a Group Achievement Award from NASA Administrator, Michael D. Griffin. CUBRC's Hypersonics Research group working with NASA's Johnson Space Center, has played a major role in certifying the modified heat shield performance in critical path studies leading to the Return to Flight of the Shuttle. Mr. McMahon commented, "CUBRC's Hypersonic Research Center contains world-class test facilities uniquely capable of measuring the heating loads to the Space Shuttle and its launch rocket systems right here in Western New York. The research and development in hypersonics and aerothermodynamics, performed in CUBRC's hypersonic facilities, is recognized worldwide and its leadership role has resulted in collaborative efforts with leading researchers throughout the world. The key work associated with the Return to Flight activities performed by the staff of CUBRC's Hypersonic Research Group again has brought great distinction to Buffalo's resarch community. The Team's contributions literally span the globe and space."
Dr. Michael Holden, CUBRC's Director of Hypersonics & Aerothermodynamics, commented "The aerospace research conducted at CUBRC constitutes a major contribution to world class research and scientific development efforts. The construction, development and testing performed in these facilities would not be possible without the direct assistance from our congressional delegation -- Senator Clinton, Senator Schumer, and Congressman Reynolds -- and their support in maintaining the world class CUBRC staff. Over the past years our Congressional Respresentatives have played a key role in supporting this research center and ensuring we have the necessary resources to maintain its cutting edge capabilities."
