 CUBRC® is taking a strategic approach to solving the twin problems that beset the modern biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, namely the high cost and the long development time for new drugs. This approach encompasses both the structural and process issues involved as well as the scientific challenges.
To achieve this CUBRC has created a unique tripartite entity comprising academic [New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences], commercial [Prosetta Corporation] and CUBRC elements to undertake drug discovery, research and development, unencumbered by the requirement for a large bureaucratic infrastructure, great numbers of people and extensive real estate, a virtual bio-pharma cooperative research and development organization called TriBioMed - a flexible and agile business vehicle designed to take advantage of the huge resources of its academic partner to leverage the breakthrough science of its commercial biotechnology company partner using both CUBRC's long experience in science and technology management, as well as its biomedical research laboratory capability. TriBioMed will be taking a leading role in the exploitation of these revolutionary insights into multiple disease processes as well as other advances in technology to develop new therapeutics, new diagnostic tools and systems, and new biological reagents. |
