Information Fusion

Ongoing advances in networking, communications, and computing technology are resulting in an ever-increasing amount of data available for commanders and other decision makers as they carry out their responsibilities. Because these data come from a variety of different sources, each with different formats, perspectives, and context, the task of combining these complex data streams into actionable information is one of the primary challenges facing our defense, intelligence, and homeland security communities.

To address this challenge, CUBRC's Information Exploitation Group and researchers from the State University of New York at Buffalo operate and staff the Center for Multisource Information Fusion (CMIF). CMIF is a joint academic/industry partnership focused on performing leading-edge information fusion technology research and development. Led and staffed by a number of pioneers in the information fusion technology field, CMIF's work focuses on the performance of basic and applied research that results in the creation of advanced information fusion based tools and systems. These tools and systems can be applied across a number of application domains including, defense, intelligence, homeland security, and medical informatics.
